GEAR UP KENTUCKY II is a federally funded program administered by the Council on Postsecondary Education which provides assistance to students, parents and teachers. It is designed to help children prepare for and gain a pathway to undergraduate collegiate programs. It helps open the doors of undergraduate programs to all low-income students. The grant is designed to increase the number of students who enter and successfully complete post secondary education. GEAR UP KENTUCKY II focuses on awareness, rigorous curricula, increased access to college through scholarships, engagement of parents and student support. Activities for these students may include but are not limited to tutoring, homework and academic assistance

These innovative programs start early, reaching out to students no later than seventh grade and continuing with them into college. They provide students with mentors who encourage them to have superior hopes and high expectations, ensure that schools teach classes that prepare young people for college entrance exams and help families plan and decide how to pay for college.
