The
new Kentucky School of Bluegrass and Traditional Music was officially
announced at a May 2005 Hyden community bluegrass concert held
at the Leslie County Center, the future cite of the music school.
The Dean Osborne Band performed that evening along with national
advisory council members, Carla Gover and Mitch Barrett of "Zoe
Speaks," young Leslie County musicians, Riley Hendrix and
the Wooton Family, HCTC student Sarah Howard, and master bluegrass
fiddler Kenny Baker. Special guest performer was Bobby Osborne,
a Grand Ole Opry member, International Bluegrass Music Association
(IBMA) Hall of Honor recipient, and a member of the Kentucky Music
Hall of Fame.
